Singing, Dancing, and AI: Why Our Family Is Hooked on This AI Music Generator
How Music (And Technology) Bring Us Closer Together
The first time we used Suno, an AI music generator, was a spontaneous family moment that turned into something unexpectedly special. We decided to write a song about our daughters while having dinner with my parents. I had heard about Suno and thought, “Why not try it together?”
At first, it was just a fun experiment—something new and different to show them. We had used Suno separately before, but something magical happened when we created music together. The energy in the room shifted as soon as we hit play. The song we generated was upbeat, catchy, and silly, with lyrics about how our daughters were superheroes saving the world. But what stood out was the collective joy it sparked.
Our three-year-old started dancing, and soon enough, my parents—her grandparents—joined in. We were all laughing and moving together. It was one of those moments where technology didn’t feel like a barrier, but more like a bridge, connecting generations through a shared experience.
The Personal Touch That Made It Special
Now, if I’m being honest, the song itself wasn’t particularly great. In fact, we’ve played it for friends and they didn’t think it was anything special—though they agreed it was catchy. But what made it magical was how personal it felt. The song had our daughters’ names, their personalities woven into the lyrics. It captured a moment that we probably never would have immortalized otherwise.
And that’s the part that stays with me. In this case, AI actually created something we wouldn’t have thought to do on our own. It wasn’t the quality of the song that mattered—it was the connection it facilitated.

Making Music Our Own
After that, we kept experimenting. We wrote songs about other meaningful moments, like a road trip to Monterey, where we added phrases from our daughter’s favorite show, Bluey. I even wrote one about my wife and her love for turning thrift store finds into treasures, which thankfully she found funny. She wrote one about me, reflecting on the things I do as a dad.
These songs became little snapshots of our lives, full of in-jokes and personal details that made them special to us. Not every song landed—some felt a bit too generic, especially when we didn’t put as much thought into the input. But when we got it right, the songs felt like they belonged to us in a way nothing else did.

AI as a Tool for Connection
What surprised me the most was how much our daughter started to get involved. Now, she’ll suggest lyrics or ideas for new songs, reminding us to include something funny about her friend from preschool or our neighbors. It’s become a family activity, and the screen, the device, the AI—they all fade into the background. They’re just tools helping us create moments of connection.
I’m excited to see how she continues to interact with technology like this as she grows. For now, it’s become a way for us to bond, to laugh, and to create something uniquely ours. And that’s a real strength of generative AI—it’s ability to not just be a passive tool for consumption, but a spark for creativity and connection.
Looking Ahead
As we explore Suno and other AI tools, I can’t help but wonder how they’ll evolve and how we’ll keep incorporating them into our family’s life. The music itself might not always be groundbreaking, but the experiences we’re creating together? It might sound cheesy, but those moments feel irreplaceable.
